Growers across our territory are noticing the toll that early-season stress has already taken on corn stands. Between sand blasting, cold soils, and uneven emergence, our fields have had a rough start.
Under normal conditions, we don’t always push for an early fungicide pass — but this year is different.
We’re encouraging growers to consider tank-mixing a cost-effective fungicide, like Aquila XL or Quadris, into their V4–V7 herbicide pass. It’s not a replacement for your tassel-time application of Miravis Neo, but they can help keep plants cleaner and stronger in the weeks leading up to it.
Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) like Ag Plus Dominate are also worth a look
Dominate includes multiple PGR components that stimulate root development, enhance cell division, and promote plant growth and resilience. Combined with early fungicide protection, it can give your corn a valuable push through the V-stage stress.
We’ve been scouting hard and and the results speak for themselves — Agronomist Wade Eischens found several fields where plants are already compromised. Watch the video to see what has been happening in our Southwest Minnesota fields.
Feeding your crop at the V5 stage is a smart investment in season-long performance. At this stage, nutrient demand begins to accelerate. Supporting your crop with foliar nutrition enhances energy production, strengthens root development, and builds resilience to environmental and agronomic stress.
Plush Elite is a foliar nutrient and stress mitigation product designed to supplement crops with an advanced blend of macro and micronutrients. With added biostimulants, Plush Elite helps crops manage stress more effectively while maximizing nutrient uptake and performance.
Elite Trio provides a concentrated foliar source of zinc, manganese, and boron—key micronutrients for crop health and development.
Feeding the crop at V5 supports plant energy, root development, and stress tolerance. You can read more about feeding your crop at V5 in this article from WinField United: 5 Ways to Support Your Crop at V5
If your post-herbicide pass is coming up, this is your window to add in the fungicide and nutritional support. This is more about plant health maintenance than curative treatment. Old, chewed, or sandblasted leaves will not absorb what you apply. The key is to target new, actively growing tissue — which is why this timing matters. That’s where fungicides, PGRs, and foliar nutrients can truly do their job.
